The focus of the APELS Interactive Approach is to develop all aspects of student communicative competence including lexico-grammatical accuracy, sociolinguistic understanding, fluency in a variety of discourse types and strategic understanding of the purpose and methods of communication in different settings.

The foundation member of APELS is a pioneer of the genre-based approach to English language teaching, now successfully implemented across the Australian ELL curriculum and classrooms. Genre-based teaching enables student mastery of the full range of text-types they will encounter in academic, business and social settings.
